Barbados: Our last Caribbean island. The first thing you notice is how so much more developed it is. The capital, Bridgetown, is a busy city, much larger than anything we’ve seen before. As with everywhere we have visited, the people are welcoming and friendly.
We took a short tour inland past acres of sugar cane, before visiting a beach just south of Bridgetown. We could have gone much further but we wanted to ensure a good amount of time for shopping.
At the beach we received a free rum punch for every beach bed and parasol. That meant six drinks between us; and it wasn’t just a mouthful either. By the time we’d finished Dave and I were a little worse for wear. Each punch was a full plastic cup’s worth, and incredibly strong. It was a difficult job but someone had to finish Karon’s and Mary’s share.
Walking back to the port from the city centre it decided to rain…alot. We were soaked through by the time we arrived back at the ship. But the sun soon put in another appearance and we all congregated on the terrace (at the ship’s stern) to wave goodbye to the Caribbean (with yes, some more rum punch). I declined a little union flag as it reminded me too much of a tory party conference. But that aside, it was a good way to say our farewells.
